ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Anna Colombo is the daughter of artists with a rich history in illustration, fine arts, crafts, glass, wood, sculpture, ceramics, metal work, and textiles. Her path to becoming an artist was untraditional and took many forms, but at the end of it all, everything is art after all. Here is her story.

Anna showed early artistic talent in drawing when she was still sitting drawing eyeballs in her high chair with her father Richard Colombo, an accomplished artist and “renaissance man” in his own right. She first began getting commissions and selling her work professionally at the age of 16. Life had other plans when she started nursing school in the early 2000’s and art took a backseat to her rigorous academic pursuits.

Anna thrived in the pressure cooker of emergency medicine, and later ICU, and helicopter EMS specialties. She joined the military as an aeromedical evacuation flight nurse and cross trained to become a critical care air transport (CCATT) nurse. This adrenaline fueled path led her to writing her first novel, recounting a small portion of some of these experiences in a fictional work entitled Titrate to Effect. Anna never lost her love for art and frequently circled back to it throughout her career. The turning point from nurse back to artist came about following a harrowing six month battle with post operative complications following a radical hysterectomy for a uterine mass that left her leg partially paralyzed. The events of that ordeal and being on the other side of the bed rail caused her to reevaluate her life and priories and ultimately took her from Arizona to Ohio to live and work as an artist and writer.
